About Us

Our Society is run by Birkbeck Philosophy students, for the benefit not only of students of related disciplines, but also for everyone interested in philosophy, at any level.

We aim to keep philosophy clear and accessible whilst providing challenging and stimulating ideas to focus on. New ideas and concepts may seem provocative, even radical at first, but lead to exploration of bewildering new possibilities, which can be ultimately enthralling and rewarding, (as well as disconcerting and perplexing)!

All of our lectures are presented by guest-speakers from a wide variety of backgrounds, on a rich and diverse array of topics, and are followed by interactive debate between audience and speaker.

Additionally we hold other events such as student debates, and publish a magazine, αιτια.

We always need volunteers to make sure the Society can continue organising the events which (we believe!) enhance the experience of studying Philosophy at Birkbeck. A committee is formed at the end of each academic year, but if you would like to get involved, e-mail us at any time.
